If you're having a difficult time finding a car rental for your vacation to Ko Olina on Oahu, here are some alternative ideas for transportation.
Note: While this vehicle rental situation continues, it has eased up somewhat, with prices decreasing and inventory increasing.
Please note that we don't endorse any of these options, they are just ideas you may wish to investigate.
If you have a Costco card, or a Sams Club Card, check their travel websites. You’ll receive a discount and you can compare rates.
When booking your plane tickets, at the end of the booking process, many airlines will show you car rental options. Be ready to book if there is availability, as there may not be any vehicles showing on the car rental companies website for the same dates.
Alternative Rental Locations - In addition to the airport location, you may wish to check the Enterprise rent-a-car location at the Marriott, or the Alamo rent-a-car location at the Disney Aulani, both of which are on either side of us, the Ko Olina Beach Villas Oahu at Ko Olina. These locations should be listed on the Costco and Sams Club travel sites as well.
Alternative Rental Companies - We’ve had guests try turo which is a car rental service, similar to airbnb. Outdoorsy rents campers using a rental method similar to turo.
I’ve also seen on the news that people rent trucks from U-Haul and Home Depot when they are unable to find a rental car. Home Depot rents F250’s for $129 Per Day or $903 per week and Pensky moving trucks in Kapolei (make sure you are shopping at the Kapolei Store #1706), which is one exit down from us.
Airport Transportation - Speedishuttle provides transportation between the airport and Ko Olina.
Short Term Rental - Hui, an app from the Toyota/Lexus dealership has cars available for short term rental. They have five vehicle slots over at the 18th hole, which is located behind us, but their website does not show Ko Olina as a location. Last time we checked, there were no cars in the stalls as well. If this is the case, you will have to pick up a vehicle in town. Download the app from the App Store or the google play store. To be the first in line to make a booking, go to their website at least 30 days in advance to receive a booking reminder via email.
Touring the Island - There are also companies that have Sprinter Vans for Hire with tour guides. You may check with our activities concierge. Call them at (808) 469-3605 or fill out the Contact Form.
