Ko Olina Oahu Phased Opening Strategy Moves to Tier 4

Updated: Oct 9, 2021

Note: This is old news, the City and County of Honolulu no longer use the Tiered System.

To protect residents and visitors on Oahu from COVID, the City and County of Honolulu (Oahu) limits the size of gatherings using a tiered system, which is tied to the number of active COVID cases and local vaccination rates. There are four tiers, Tier 1 being the most restrictive and Tier 4 being the most relaxed.

It has taken four months, but we are excited to share that the City and County of Honolulu of which Ko Olina is a part of, moved to Tier 4, the least restrictive tier, as of June 11th, 2021. This was announced by Mayor Rick Blangiardi Friday morning.

Movement up and down a tier is based upon the number of cases, positivity rate, and now also upon local vaccination rates.

The good news for residents and visitors is that Tier 4 allows for gatherings of up to 25 people outdoors and 10 people indoors. At our property, up to 6 guests may stay in our two bedroom villa and up to 8 guests in our three bedroom villa, and under Tier 4 rules, guests will be able to remain together as a group outside, even if renting multiple villas, (up to the new limit).

Tier 4 also allows nightclubs to reopen at 50% capacity if attendees are tested or show proof of vaccination.

This covers gatherings in private homes such as the Beach Villas at Ko Olina, our swimming pools, beaches such as the lagoon in front of our property, parks, auditoriums, stadiums, arenas, and other indoor or outdoor spaces.

The same criteria applies to Restaurants where up to twenty five people will be allowed to gather. Social distancing rules continue to apply, with tables spaced 6 feet apart between groups.

In all cases, masks are required in public spaces and social distancing is the norm.

The governor announced that we will be moving to Tier 5 on July 8th, 2021 which will allow fully vaccinated mainland visitors to arrive without a negative covid result. It will also allow outdoor gatherings of up to 75 people. The governor also pledged last week that all COVID restrictions will be removed, once the local population reaches a 70% vaccination rate. We are currently at 57% as of June 23rd, 2021.

Here is the complete list of restrictions and milestones:
